Spring Awards Ceremony Honors Athletes

Mercersburg held its Spring Athletic Awards ceremony in the Edwards Room on May 21 and the following athletes were recognized for outstanding achievement during the spring season.

Baseball

G. Brent Gift Award: 

Established by the Reisner family to recognize the numerous contributions of Coach Brent Gift to Mercersburg baseball.  Awarded to the player who has shown the most improvement each season.   Awarded to: Adam Deavers '23

Henry B. Swoope, Jr. ’23 Award:

Awarded to that member of the baseball squad who has helped his team most by his sportsmanship and good fellowship.  Awarded to: Danny Adusei-Poku '23

Most Outstanding Contributions Award:   Awarded to: Caleb Newcomer '23


Boys' Golf

Most Improved Athlete:   Awarded to: Jason Jones '24

Most Outstanding Contributions:  Awarded to: Argyle Downes '24


Girls' Golf

Most Improved Athlete:   Awarded to: Plern Pibuldham '23

Most Outstanding Contributions:   Awarded to: Amanda Xi '25
 

Boys' Lacrosse

Lacrosse Alumni Award - Most Improved Athlete.  Awarded to: Thomas Zhu '26 and Max Friedman '25

Nelson T. Shields, IV ’70 Lacrosse Award: 

Awarded to the varsity lacrosse player who, through his spirit and teamwork and sense of sportsmanship, has contributed the most to the team’s success and their enjoyment of the game.   Awarded to: Sam Wallace '23

Most Outstanding Contributions Award:   Awarded to: Chris LaBolle '23


Girls' Lacrosse

Most Improved Athlete:  Awarded to: Scarlett McArthur '24

Most Outstanding Contributions Award.  Awarded to: Zareena Sorho '23 and Zarreen Sorho '23


Boys' Outdoor Track & Field

Edward J. Powers ’37 Award: 

Given by his family for the inspiration of Edward Powers and his belief in hard work and dedication, and awarded to the athlete who has shown the most improvement over the season.  Awarded to: Adrian Rios '25

Most Outstanding Contributions Award:  Awarded to: Chuks Ugori '23


Girls' Outdoor Track & Field

Most Outstanding Contributions Award.  Awarded to: Hannah King '23

 

Softball

Most Improved Athlete.  Awarded to: Jessica Dang '26

Most Outstanding Contributions Award:  Awarded to: Quin Caretti '24

 

Boys' Tennis

Most Improved Athlete:   Awarded to: Simon Brennan '26

Most Outstanding Contributions Award:   Awarded to: Jamie Talley '23

 

In addition to these special awards, several seniors received blankets for lettering in a particular sport for four consecutive years, and three seniors were honored for the rare feat of earning 12 varsity letters (the maximum possible) during their four years at Mercersburg.  Those three athletes are Hannah King '23, Rachel Hull '23, and Greta Lawler '23.
