Mercersburg defeated visiting Shipley School (Bryn Mawr, PA) 11-1 in the first round of the PAISAA softball tournament May 14.

The #9 Gators scored on a walk and a double in the first, but pitcher Quin Caretti '24 shut them down with just one hit and no runs the rest of the way. Ava Guzic '25 drove in a run with a single in the bottom of the first and Larkin Fletcher '26 followed up with a two-run single to put #8 Mercersburg on top for good. The Storm only had four total hits (two by Guzic), but used six walks and seven hit by pitches to build the lead. Jaz Garnett '27 drilled a three-run double in the bottom of the fifth and scored a few batters later on a wild pitch to give the Storm a 10-run lead and bring an end to the game. Caretti struck out six against just one walk in five innings of work.

Mercersburg is now 10-10 and will travel to Philadelphia on Thursday, May 16 to take on the #1 seed Springside Chestnut Hill; game time tba.
