Softball Splits Doubleheader with Friends Select

The Blue Storm softball team defeated Friends Select School (Philadelphia) 19-14 in game two of a May 13 doubleheader to earn a split, after narrowly losing game one 9-8.

The games were played in Jenkintown, PA on the campus of Abington Friends School, and it marked the end of a busy week for the Storm as they played six games in just five days. Defensive problems cost Mercersburg in both games, but particularly in the opener when the team committed nine errors that led to five unearned runs. The Blue Storm had an 8-5 lead in the middle of the sixth, but the Falcons rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth and then held on as Mercersburg loaded the bases in the seventh but was unable to push across the tying run. Kam Jenkins '26 and Alli Caretti '26 had three hits each and Caretti drove in three of the eight runs.

In game two, Mercersburg again built an early lead and was up 13-3 after four innings, but the Falcons scored seven runs in the fifth to make it a ballgame. The Storm added five more runs in the top of the seventh, keyed by a two-run double from Jessica Dang '26, and held on for the 19-14 win. Jenkins was once again the leading hitter with three hits (including a three-run homer) and seven RBI. Pritz Pritzker '25, Stevie Keck '25, and Quin Caretti '24 each had two hits and two RBI. Quin Caretti pitched both games and collected sixteen total strikeouts.

Mercersburg ends its season with a final record of 10-10.
