Peddie pitcher Morgan Beggs tossed a no-hitter in Game 1 of a softball doubleheader and the host Falcons held off Mercersburg for a 4-3 win in the nightcap of a Mid-Atlantic Prep League twin-bill played April 23 in Hightstown, NJ.
As solid as Beggs was on the mound, the Blue Storm didn’t help itself by committing five errors which led to five unearned runs.
Game 2 was a much closer contest. Quin Caretti ’24 held Peddie hitless for 3 1/3 innings and Mercersburg led 1-0 after Catherine Shaffer ’22 was hit by a pitch and came around to score on an RBI groundout by Kayleigh Linn ’22. The Storm took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th on a two-run hit by Cate Vickery ’22 which scored Jamie Hyung ’23 and Monique Garcia ’22.
Peddie responded with three runs in the top of the 6th to tie the game at 3-3, and then scored what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the 7th.
“This one stung, but it was a much better game than Game 1,” said Mercersburg head coach Lauren Jacobs. “Quin pitched one of her best games of the season, so it was unfortunate that we couldn’t get the W for her.”
Mercersburg (6-8, 2-4 MAPL) visits Madeira Tuesday, April 26, for the M Cup series game (4:30 p.m.)
