Softball Beats MSD Again

Mercersburg’s softball team scored the first five runs of the game and cruised to a 12-4 win over the host Maryland School for the Deaf April 12 in Frederick, MD. It was the second win of the year for the Blue Storm over the Orioles.

Catherine Shaffer ’22 had two hits for Mercersburg, and Monique Garcia ’22 scored three runs from the leadoff spot. The Blue Storm’s recent offensive hot streak cooled off a bit, with just seven hits (following a weekend sweep of Mid-Atlantic Prep League rival Hill where the Storm scored 47 runs in two games).

“We got the job done, but we didn’t adjust well to their pitcher and didn’t seem to have a lot of energy,” said Mercersburg head coach Lauren Jacobs. “We need to figure out how to play to our level.”

Quin Caretti ’24 went the distance in the circle to earn her first victory of the year. She struck out eight and allowed just three hits.

Mercersburg (6-4) hosts local foe St. James School Thursday, April 14, at 4:30 p.m. at Spider Field.
