Mercersburg Welcomes New Alumni Council Members

The mission of the Alumni Council is to build and perpetuate an alumni community of support for the school focusing on engagement and philanthropy. This year, Mercersburg Academy is pleased to welcome four new members.

Ex-Officio Board of Regents member Kristin Butterfield Vickery '88, P '18, '22 is director of grassroots advocacy at the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is returning to the Alumni Council after completing her role as co-chair of the White Key Executive Council in 2022. She was appointed to the Board in 2020 and served on the Risk and Audit, Reach and Reputation, Institutional Status, and Strategy Committees.

She has served Mercersburg in a variety of roles, such as hosting and attending admission events, serving as a team parent, volunteering for the Annual Fund, and co-chairing the White Key Executive Council. She has also served as Reunion Committee co-chair (2003 and 2008). In spring 2022, she and her husband, Stuart, were recognized for their service to Mercersburg with the James Hasson Distinguished Service Award.

Kristin’s children, Thomas ’18 and Catherine ’22, are Mercersburg graduates, and other connections to the school include her great-grandfather John Drumm H ’38, father John Butterfield ’56, uncle David Butterfield ’60 (deceased). 

She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and George Washington University and resides in Alexandria, VA.

Maria Loyacona Sade '12 is a senior manager, campaign success for American Express, where she works on the merchant side of the business with global and large market clients. 

She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Richmond and earned her MBA from Texas A&M. She and her husband, Niklas, live in Raleigh, NC.

K. Scheller “Schelley” Hollyday '72 is principal at The Hollyday Group, which focuses on hospitality consulting for senior living. She has more than 25 years of experience in the senior living industry. 

Schelley has served Mercersburg as a member of her reunion committees (1997, 2016-17, 2020-22), as a Springboard member (2016-17), and as a member of the Women in Focus Committee (2023).

She holds a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and hotel administration from the Cornell School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University. She has two children, Karen and Michael, and resides in West Chester, PA. 

Donald "Paul" Sommerville '63, P ’17 is a labor relations management consultant. He has served Mercersburg in a variety of roles. Most recently, he was a reunion committee member (2003, 2008) ,an Annual Fund calling volunteer, and admission representative (2015). He has also assisted the school as an Admission volunteer (2017), Annual Fund caller (2013-14), Annual Fund volunteer solicitor (2016-17, 2020), class agent (2006), event volunteer (2014), and a member of his reunion committees (1998, 2011-12, 2017, 2022). In addition, he has been a Springboard volunteer (2020), a White Key Admission volunteer (2015-16), and a White Key parent relations volunteer (2014).

Paul holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Duke University. He and his wife, Ann, live in Beaufort, SC, with their children, Alexas ’17 and Paula.
