Hedgesville Nips Boys' Varsity Lacrosse

Hedgesville scored the game-winning goal with under a minute to play to edge visiting Mercersburg 8-7 in a boys' varsity lacrosse game May 3.

The Eagles led 6-4 at the half and stretched the lead to 7-4 early in the third quarter before the Blue Storm rallied to tie the game at 7-7 early in the fourth. The stalemate held until Hedgesville scored off a turnover with 50 seconds remaining. Mercersburg had one more chance as Chris LaBolle '23 picked off a pass and sent the ball forward to Sam Wallace '23, who battled his way into scoring position and fired off a shot from eight yards out that missed just wide with 5 seconds to go in the game.

Wallace led the Storm with four goals while Frank Cantera '23, Davis Noone '23, and Gabe McGuire '24 scored one each. Reed Warner '25 picked up two assists and Cole Piraino '26 added one. LaBolle led the team in ground balls with five while Noone collected four. Taimur Rehman '25 had another solid game in goal with ten saves.

Mercersburg (1-9) will conclude its season with a home game against St. Maria Goretti (Hagerstown, MD) on Friday, May 12 at 4:30 pm.
