Golfers Play Mixed Format at Woodberry Forest

Mercersburg Academy traveled to Woodberry Forest (VA) April 25 for a unique match featuring two all-boys teams from Woodberry, an all-girls team from St. Catherine's (Richmond, VA) and a mixed girls/boys team from Mercersburg. All the teams played well with the Woodberry Forest varsity squad leading the way with a score of 146 while Mercersburg registered a 156, St. Catherine's 161, and the Woodberry Forest JV's came in at 171.

Argyle Downes '24 was again the medalist with an outstanding 34 that could have been two to three strokes lower. Jason Jones '24 recovered after being 6 over through five holes to end the day at 4 over with a 39. Co-captain Ethan Xin '23 followed with a 41 that continued a run of good form for him. Next in line for the Blue Storm was Amanda Xi '25, who bounced back from a difficult round last week with a rock solid 42 on the day.

"This match was so much fun," added Coach Smith", and the entire team played so well that we didn't even count Kate's (Kalinowski '24) 45 and Sihyeon's (Bae '24) 46. We knew that Woodberry was a tall task, and St. Catherine's is strong as well, but I was proud of how we played. Argyle was spectacular once again with a 34, and just seems to be good each time out. I hope we can get more of these special style events, and the kids loved every minute of the trip."
