Golf Team Wins Opening Tournament

Mercersburg Academy hosted the 1st annual Tri-County Invitational at The Chambersburg Country Club September 9, and easily shot the lowest score of the four teams. This was the Storm's opening match of the year and the team came out red hot. Co-captain Argyle Downes '24 began his final campaign for the Academy with a sparkling 69 that featured five birdies on the day.  Right on his tail was Isaiah Marsailes '24 who finished birdie-birdie to post the team's second under par round of the day with a 71. Co-captain Jason Jones '24 displayed some phenomenal ball striking and posted a career low 74 for a third low round. Ryan Kothari '25 and Broodie Collins '24 both shot 92 to give the team an impressive 307 for the event, 67 shots lower than McConnellsburg (PA) high school and St. Maria Goretti School (Hagerstown, PA), who tied for second.

"This is an outstanding start to the year and our top three showed their strength on the day," said head coach Doug Smith. "We played seriously brilliant golf all-around. Nobody shot over 93, and I am confident that we will improve at the backend of the top 6 and round into form as the fall progresses. It is nice to feel that despite these great scores we have more in the tank from this squad."

The Blue Storm has a two-week layoff before a match at Kiski School (Saltsburg, PA) on Saturday, September 23.
