Girls' V Tennis Wins Opener

A soggy start to the day did not dampen the play of the girls' varsity tennis team as they defeated host Foxcroft School (Middleburg, VA) by a score of 6-3 September 7.

After an hour and a half delay from the rain storm and some hard work by players on both teams to dry the courts, Mercersburg unleashed its own Storm on the Hounds.  Ava Marathe '26 and Anezka Pospisilova '26 got things started with an 8-3 win at #3 doubles and then Hisano Enomoto '25 and Mogere Nyakoe '25 pulled out an 8-6 win at #1 doubles to give Mercersburg a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.  Nyakoe (#2), Pospisilova (#5), Marathe (#6) and Cate Dougherty '25 (#3) won their singles matches for the 6-3 win.  Head coach Mike Sweeney commented, "Overall, there was significant improvement from our match [scrimmage] on Wednesday as we were more consistent in all aspects of play."

Next up for Mercersburg (1-0) is a home match against St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School (Alexandria, VA) on Tuesday, September 10 at 4:30 pm.
