On October 11, Mercersburg defeated Georgetown Day School 4-3 in a girls' varsity tennis match played on the campus of George Washington University in Washington, DC.
The Blue Storm took the top three singles matches and the #1 doubles match to get the four points needed for the team win. Most of the contests ended with pretty solid wins for one team or the other, though all the 10-5 matches were more competitive than the score might indicate. But the match of the day was clearly the #4 singles event where Mercersburg's Ava Shanefelter '26 and GDS's Catherine Dooley went back and forth for nearly two hours, with neither player ever holding more than a one-game lead. In the end, Dooley squeaked out an 11-10 win by taking the tiebreak 7-5. Match results are listed below.
Mercersburg is now 6-4 with over a week before the next match at Mid-Atlantic Prep League rival Blair Academy (Blairstown, NJ) on Friday, October 20 at 4 pm.
