Girls' V Squash Third at MASO

The Blue Storm girls' varsity squash team took third place in the Mid-Atlantic Squash Organization's annual tournament, held at The Potomac School (McLean, VA) on February 4.

As the third seed, Mercersburg received a first round bye and took on #2 St. Catherine's School (Richmond, VA) in its first contest. The Blue Storm took the top four spots on the ladder but the Saints swept the rest for the 5-4 win. Mercersburg lost to the Saints 6-3 earlier this season, and almost pulled out the win today.

Next, the girls swept Episcopal high school (Alexandria, VA) 9-0. Head coach Mike Sweeney noted that, "While this did not fall within the structure of the tournament, it was a good opportunity to get in another match."

In the Consolation round, Mercersburg pulled off another 9-0 sweep over National Cathedral School (Washington, DC), a team they had defeated 7-2 back in January. Coach Sweeney commented, "This time [against NCS] we played better squash up and down the ladder."

The entire top 4 on the ladder, Emilia Falconi '23, Martina Vega '23, Greta Lawler '23, and Coco Zhai '24 went undefeated in all three matches.

Next up for the 12-4 Storm is a rematch with Episcopal at the Davenport Squash Center on Tuesday, February 8 at 3:30.
