The girls' varsity lacrosse battled back after falling into an early hole, but in the end came up short in a 17-11 loss to host Hill School in the PAISAA state tournament May 15.
After falling behind 13-2 at the half, Mercersburg outscored Hill 9-4 in the second half and was also dominant in the draw circle. But head coach Kristin Ahlgren pointed out that "The slow start ultimately hurt us too much, and Hill advances while our season comes to a close." Hill will take on #1 seed and defending champion Agnes Irwin on Saturday, May 18.
Emerson Lissette '24 once again led the offense with four goals and an assist to bring her season total to 102 points (57 goals and 45 assists) and she finishes her career with 114 points. Alysha Thurmond '26 added three goals and one assist while Chloe Allis '25 reversed that stat line with one goal and three assists. Nora Smith '24, Maria Rihn '24, and Sarah Howley '26 had one goal each and goalie Scarlett McArthur '24 collected five saves.
Coach Ahlgren added, "We finished the season with a 9-8 record of which we can be very proud. Every player showed significant improvement, and we had an outstanding team dynamic. We finished the game with all of our seniors on the field playing together one last time! Thank you for your excellent leadership and teamwork, seniors: Paloma Casariego '24, Emerson Lissette '24, Scarlett McArthur '24, Grace Rachal '24, Maria Rihn '24, Nora Smith '24, and Emily Tan '24!
