Mercersburg defeated visiting Episcopal Academy (Newtown Square, PA) 48-39 in the first round of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association girls' basketball tournament February 21.
Episcopal was the #10 seed in the tournament and they battled hard against the #7 Storm, taking a 1-point lead (23-22) into the halftime break. Mercersburg was short-handed, playing without two key players and then losing another starter to injury at the start of the fourth quarter. But Nicole Leung '26 hit three big three-pointers in the second half as Mercersburg fought back and took control of the game as the Storm defense clamped down on Episcopal, holding them to just five points in the third quarter. Lily Crounse '25 was a big part of the defensive effort with several blocked shots late in the game. Leung led Mercersburg with 18 points while Annie Mohr '26 had 14 and Alli Caretti '26 chipped in 9.
The Storm is now 16-7 for the season and will travel to Wynnewood, PA on Tuesday, February 25 to take on second seeded Friends Central School in the PAISAA quarterfinals.
