Girlsā€™ Track & Field Wins Hill Relays; Boys 3rd

Mercersburg’s girls’ track and field team took first place at the Hill Relays April 9 in Pottstown, PA, while the Blue Storm boys finished third. The annual event has a different format than a typical track & field meet, with the results of each individual event being determined by the top two performances from each school.

The Storm won the girls’ high jump, pole vault, triple jump, and discus, along with the traditional 4x800m relay. On the boys’ side, Mercersburg took first in the pole vault and long jump, as well as the 4x800m and distance medley relays.

First-place winners included:

4x800m relay: Greta Lawler ’23, Susan Concordia ’22, Kyla Moore ’24, Avery Morrison ’22 (11:36.79)
High jump: Leah Gentry-Tuney ’22 (5-04)/Hannah King ’23 (5-02) 
Triple jump: Susan Concordia ’22 (30-03)/Erika Tso Sowah ’24 (28-01.50)
Pole vault: King (7-0)/Moore (5-0)
Discus: Arden Phoenix ’22 (92-03.50)/Maddie Lusser ’24 (76-07)

4x800m relay: Jake Cruikshank ’24, Winston Watkins ’25, Mick Lorenger ’22, Dylan Stiffler ’24 (9:25.25)
Distance medley: Lorenger, Chuks Ugori ’23, Pablo Garza Gutierrez ’22, Cruikshank (12:05.74)
Long jump: Chris Watson ’22 (20-11.50)/no partner
Pole vault: Roby Pong ’23 (33-05)/Cy Dittman ’25 (32-09)

The Blue Storm will be in action at home for the first time this season Tuesday, April 12, when Mercersburg hosts a midweek meet beginning at 3:30 p.m. on the Curran Track. The event features St. Maria Goretti, St. John’s Catholic Prep, and the Maryland School for the Deaf in addition to the Storm.
