Zarreen Sorho '23 scored the winning goal in overtime as the Blue Storm girls' varsity lacrosse team defeated host Shipley School (Bryn Mawr, PA) 10-9 May 18 in the first round of the independent school state tournament.
Back on April 19, Mercersburg travelled to Shipley and came away with an 11-10 overtime win. Today's game was similar as these two teams were very evenly matched. The tournament seedings also reflected that, as the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association put Shipley in the #8 slot while Mercersburg was placed in the #9 position. Head coach Kristin Ahlgren commented, "Our team did a great job playing their best lacrosse and working together to come away with the win!'
Zareena Sorho '23 scored half of the Blue Storm goals and had one assist while Zarreen had two goals (including the game-winner) and handed out three assists. Linley Hill '23 also had three assists and scored once while Hailey Chepren '23 had a goal and an assist. Emerson Lissette '24 picked up the other goal and Cameron Dotson '23 had one assist while Scarlett McArthur '24 collected six saves in the Blue Storm goal.
Mercersburg (11-8) advances to the second round to take on #1 seed Agnes Irwin School (Rosemont, PA) on Friday, May 19 at 4 pm. Coach Ahlgren added, "Agnes Irwin’s girls' lacrosse team is currently ranked #19 in the country, so it is a big honor to get to play them!"
