Mercersburg swept visiting McDonogh School (Owings Mills, MD) 3-0 in a girls' golf match play competition held at the Chambersburg Country Club April 26.
With five golfers competing for each school, the golfers were divided into two groups of four with two partners from each team playing best ball format while the third match was a one-on-one straight up match play. Mercersburg's first pair of Sihyeon Bae '24 and Amanda Xi '25 were both on top of their game and won their match 4 and 3. Kate Kalinowski '24 and Plern Pibuldham '23 outplayed their opponents in the second pairing while Abby Yang '25 pulled out a 2 Up victory in the singles match.
"The girls are really clicking as a squad and this was the best team performance we have had this year," said head coach Doug Smith. "Each member of the team played well today and we have been waiting all year for them to score at the same time. This is the type of momentum that we would like to carry into major matches we still have to come."
Mercersburg takes on Bullis (Potomac, MD) at the Falls Road Golf Course (also in Potomac) on Wednesday, May 3 at 3:30 pm.
