Mercersburg's girls' golf team took second place in the Pennsylvania Independent School Athletic Association tournament May 18, which was held at the Merion Golf Club's West Course in Haverford, PA.
This is the first year Mercersburg has participated in this event, and the team handled the pressure well, securing the runner-up spot by two strokes while Hill took first place honors. Kate Kalinowski '24 recorded the low score of the day for the Storm by carding a 46 on the par 37 front 9. Coming in one stroke behind her was Sihyeon Bae '24 who had a bit of an up and down day with a 47 that had the potential to be much lower. Amanda Xi '25 had a rough first hole but was able to to remain focused and fought her way to a respectable 49. Abby Yang '25 was the final scorer with a 51 that featured some of her best ball striking of the year.
"I am so proud of the girls' effort this year, and this is a great confirmation of that," said head coach Doug Smith. "We as a team have always picked each other up when we struggled and today was no different. The attitude of this team is second to none and it has been a joy to witness all year. Today was Kate's turn to fire a low round but everybody battled to the end. It is bittersweet that this is Plern's (Pibuldham '23) last match in the program. She will be sorely missed next year but the remainder of this team will be back and we will grow from here."
