The Mercersburg Academy Girls team took to the road for their first match of the season travelling to Bretton Woods in Germantown Md to face off against Holton-Arms School (Bethesda, MD). The Storm came home with a 189-211 victory.
Head coach Doug Smith reports that "The temperatures creeped into the high 50's but the wind was absolutely howling making conditions extremely difficult. Co-captain Sihyeon Bae '23 was able to overcome a difficult start and showed her determination by securing the medalist of the match with a strong 44. Coming in directly behind her was Amanda Xi '24 who also battled a few disappointing holes to start with a very respectable 45 on the day. Next in the scoring was Abby Yang '24 who managed a 49, and Co-Captain Kate Kalinowski '23 rounded out the scoring with a 51."
"It was great to get the season started," Coach Smith added, "and we were so thankful for Holton-Arms to host us at Bretton Woods despite the wild windy conditions. This was the first time I have ever seen the wind blow sand out of the sand traps. However, the girls very much kept their heads about them and fought through the round with their normal determination. Sihyeon was her usual composed self and just steadily got stronger and stronger on the day. This is a good start but we have work to do to get to where we want to be."
On Saturday, March 23, the girls' and boys' teams both have a noon matchup against Bishop O'Connell high school (Arlington, VA) at the East Potomac Golf Links (Washington, DC).
