Girls' Basketball Teams Defeat Holton-Arms School

The girls' varsity and JV basketball teams both defeated host Holton-Arms School (Bethesda, MD) February 8.  The varsity prevailed 50-35 while the JV pulled out a 16-8 win in a low-scoring affair.

As has been the pattern of late, the varsity team stormed out of the gate and had a huge 21-2 lead after the first period. Holton-Arms settled in and narrowed the gap to 12 by halftime and 11 entering the fourth quarter, but Mercersburg held steady for its third straight win. Rachel Hull '23 and Annie Mohr '26 scored 18 apiece to lead the offense while Madison Goodhart '24 added 11. Hull was the assist leader with 5 while Goodhart topped the rebounding column with 9.

The Blue Storm JV's trailed 7-6 at halftime, but held the home team to just one free throw in the second half and rallied for the 16-8 win. A day earlier, the JV team fell to Madeira 27-25 in a nail-biter played in McLean, VA.

Next up for the varsity is the first round of the Mid-Atlantic Prep League tournament, which is being played in Mercersburg this year. The third-seeded Blue Storm take on sixth-seeded Peddie on Friday, February 10 at 8:30 pm. Next up for the JV squad is a game at Bedford County CIA (Everett, PA), also on Friday, February 10 at 6 pm.
