Mercersburg jumped out to an 11-0 lead over host Perkiomen (Pennsburg, PA) and then held on for a 12-9 softball win in a game played April 24.
Jaz Garnett '27 doubled home Kam Jenkins '26 with the game's first run in the top of the first, and then did it again in the third as the Storm exploded for seven runs. Three more runs in the fifth put Mercersburg up by 11, but Perkiomen scored seven runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth with the help of several Storm miscues. The Panthers plated a couple more unearned runs in the sixth, and got their first two batters on base in the seventh, but Mercersburg closed it out for the 12-9 win.
Garnett, Jenkins, and Adi Rinker '27 had three hits each for Mercersburg with Rinker scoring three times and Garnett collecting three RBI. Quin Caretti '24 gave up just one earned run on the mound to pick up the win.
Now 7-5 on the season, Mercersburg will try to extend their winning streak on Saturday, April 27 when they play a doubleheader at Hun School (Princeton, NJ) beginning at 1 pm.
