Mercersburg Academy’s Family and Alumni Weekend will take place Friday, September 29, to Sunday, October 1. Families of students, alumni, guests, and friends are invited back to campus to participate in campus life and enjoy a beautiful fall weekend. Some of the many weekend highlights include class visits, a keynote address by Rajiv Vinnakota, president of the Institute for Citizens & Scholars, opportunities to hear from and connect with Mercersburg’s Office of College Counseling and several visiting college representatives, and a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Blue Review.
College counseling offerings start on Friday, September 29, with a financial aid workshop. Carey Thompson from Gettysburg College will join Mercersburg college counselor Daniel Hulse to provide an overview of college financial aid for 11th- and 12th-grade parents.
Saturday morning, September 30, begins with grade-specific college counseling sessions led by Mercersburg’s college counselors. Following these sessions, all parents are invited to the College Deans’ Panel where they will have an opportunity to hear from three seasoned admission professionals about the dynamic landscape of college admission and enrollment. Visiting presenters include Kathleen Abels of Haverford College, Bruce Bunnick of Lehigh University, and Elena Hicks of Southern Methodist University.
Visitors for the weekend will also witness school traditions such as Step Songs at Main Hall and a bonfire on Tippetts Beach and attend classes, performances, and athletic events. Other offerings include a tailgate lunch and various celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Blue Review such as a lunch with current leadership and an interactive workshop led by faculty.
All meals and events are complimentary, and online registration closes at midnight Friday, September 22.
