Curtis Takes 2nd at MAPL Diving Invitational

Pete Curtis ’22 finished second in the boys’ division of the Mid-Atlantic Prep League Diving Invitational, which was held February 12 in Pottstown, PA. Curtis tallied 356.4 points.

Teammate Alex Van Ess ’24 took fourth in the boys’ standings. On the girls’ side, Clare Ip ’23, Eliana Sandy ’24, and Johanna Lee ’25 all competed in their first championship format (11-dive) meet, with Ip placing eighth and Lee 11th.

Interim head coach Frank Betkowski P ’19, ’21, ’23, ’24 said, “Obviously I am thrilled about Pete’s finish, but I am equally proud of the rest of the team.  Our competitive divers have been working decidedly hard the last few weeks, learning new dives and polishing others.”

Curtis’s second-place finish is the highest for a Blue Storm diver since Maggie Betkowski ’21 won the girls event in 2020.

The event is the traditional warm-up for the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held February 25–26. The diving portion of the competition will take place at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, PA.
