The Blue Storm boys' and girls' cross country teams both had strong showings as they competed in the Gettysburg Invitational October 6.
The girls' team finished 14th with Anne Sehon '25 coming in 30th out of 204 runners and five team members recording lifetime PR's (marked with an *). Head coach Betsy Cunningham said, "The team finished 14th out of 26 teams which was great considering they were racing against some large, public schools. I was impressed that the team raced so well considering how hard they have been training. I continue to be in awe of these kids who work so hard during the academic day and then train and compete with strength and perseverance."

The boys' team took 15th out of 31 teams, holding their own against a field that included a number of large schools. Winston Watkins '25 led the way for the Storm with a quality performance that placed him just outside the top 30. Jake Cruikshank '24 ran his best time ever for 5k, breaking the 18-minute barrier for the first time. Head coach David Grady commented, “Jake ran a strong race today. He has looked good in workouts recently, and it is nice when that translates into a quality race performance. Both Winston and Jake have stepped things up a notch in races. That will likely inspire the other varsity runners to believe they can do the same.” The top five finishers for Mercersburg were:
32nd – Winston Watkins ’25 – 17:24.7
45th – Jake Cruikshank ’24 – 17:45.6
98th – Brendan Shorb ’24 – 18:32.5
112th – Bryson Brown ’24 – 18:40.3
171st – Oscar Su ’25 – 19:39.2
