Caretti Fans 12 as Softball Team Tops Goretti

Quin Caretti '24 recorded 12 strikeouts in six innings on the mound as Mercersburg defeated visiting St. Maria Goretti (Hagerstown, MD) 12-2 in a varsity softball game May 10.

Amazingly, the first 12 outs of the game came via strikeout as both pitchers struck out the side in the first two innings. Caretti recorded her 100th strikeout of the season in the fourth inning and now has a running total of 104. The Blue Storm managed to push across two runs around all those strikeouts with Alli Caretti '26 and Larkin Fletcher '26 belting RBI singles in the first inning. Goretti tied it with a two-run homer in the third, but Mercersburg responded with three in the bottom half and then pulled away with five in the fourth. The game ended when the Storm tacked on two runs in the sixth to activate the 10-run rule.

Fletcher led Mercersburg with three hits and three RBI while Pritz Pritzker '25 had two hits and also picked up three RBI. Ava Guzic '25 reached base all four times she came to the plate and scored four runs.

Head coach Lauren Jacobs commented, "I thought we did a good job of bouncing back from our game yesterday. We brought more energy and it showed by getting out in front early on. A huge congratulations to Quin for her 100th strikeout."

The Blue Storm is now 7-9 and will host Peddie (Hightstown, NJ) for a MAPL doubleheader on Friday, May 12 beginning at 2 pm.
