Caiden Bowers '25 Breaks 36-Year Old School Swimming Record
Caiden Bowers '25 swam the 100-yard butterfly event in 47.36 seconds to break the Mercersburg boys' record of 48.00 that had been held by olympic gold medalist Melvin Stewart '88 since 1988. Bowers' swim came during the Mercersburg November Invitational swim meet, held in the Lloyd Aquatic Center on November 2.
Commenting on the achievement, Bowers said, “I’m honored to break a record set by someone as legendary as Mel Stewart, and excited for what’s ahead.” New Mercersburg head swim coach Matt Hurst commented, "Caiden’s been a great addition to our program and a pleasure to coach.”
The Storm swim teams will kick off their winter season with a meet at State College (PA) Area high school on Wednesday, December 4 at 4 pm.
