Boys' V Soccer Battles Kiski to a Draw

The boys' varsity soccer team ran its undefeated streak to five with a 1-1 tie against visiting Kiski School (Saltsburg, PA) October 16. This was an impressive performance for the Storm as Kiski is ranked #3 in the nation by MaxPreps.

Mercersburg struck first midway through the first half when Ewan McDowell '26 sent in a free kick that was headed down by Gustavo Lisboa Santana '26 and then redirected into the net by Arnav Rao '26. The Storm went into a defensive posture and denied the Cougars until they scored the equalizer with about seventeen minutes left in the game. Head coach Skyler Clark had high praise for the back line defense of Lisboa Santana and Pedro Abranches '26 (center backs), Max Zhang '26 (left back), and Noah Drenner '26 (right back) as well as goalie Keegan Roddis '25. Max Strauss '25 nearly scored the game-winning goal, but his shot rolled along the goal line and stayed out.

"I could not be more proud of our team," said coach Clark. "We had every right to show up timid/afraid, but instead we rose to the challenge and accepted it head on. Despite having several key players out including our starting centerback Simon Brennan '26 and right midfielder Grant Wilkinson '26, we consistently overcame adversity. It is a huge result for this program and one we hope to build off of with the remaining MAPL games we have left."

Mercersburg is now 5-5-1 with a home game against MAPL rival Blair Academy on Saturday, October 19 at 1 pm.
