Boys' V Basketball Knocks Off Peddie in MAPL Opener

In the first round of the Mid-Atlantic Prep League boys' varsity basketball tournament, the fifth-seeded Storm defeated #4 Peddie 79-64 February 8.

The third time was the charm for Mercersburg, which lost to Peddie twice earlier in the season. In the tournament matchup, the Storm put six players in double figures, creating an incredibly well-balanced scoring attack. The game was back and forth in the first half, which ended on a buzzer-beating 12-footer by Josiah Wright '25 to give Mercersburg a four-point lead and momentum heading into the locker room. The Storm took control of the game at the start of the third quarter and quickly pulled away to a 15-point advantage, which they basically held for the rest of the contest.

Erik Oliver-Bush '24 led Mercersburg with 18 points while Thaddeus Lee '24 had 16. Sam Menendez '24 (12), Chris Ametepe '25 (11), Wright (10), and Bryson Brown '24 (10) also scored in double figures.

Next up for the Storm (16-7 overall) is a rematch against Hill, the #1 seed. Mercersburg gave Hill its only MAPL loss just a week ago, and will try to do it again in the semi-final game, which will be played at the Hun School of Princeton, New Jersey on Saturday, February 10 at 4 pm.
