Boys' V Basketball Downs Lawrenceville in Thriller

Mercersburg pulled out a narrow 65-59 victory over host Lawrenceville (NJ) in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League boys' varsity basketball game January 18.

The Storm charged out of the gate to score the first eight points of the game, but the Big Red put on a run of their own, and by the end of the first period Lawrenceville had tied it at 16. Mercersburg led by three at halftime but the teams were once again tied at 49 entering the fourth quarter. Things went back and forth for most of the final period but Thaddeus Lee '25 and Chris Ametepe '25 made big plays down the stretch to lead the team to the win. Lee scored 9 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and Ametepe hit two big buckets in the final minute as the Storm turned a one-point lead into a six-point victory. Ametepe also finished with 18 points as he and Lee tied for top honors while Cam Wayforth '27 added 8 and Kellen Greene '28 and Joe Segal '26 chipped in six points each.

Mercersburg is now 8-7 overall and 1-1 in the MAPL with another league game at Hill (Pottstown, PA) on Wednesday, January 22 at 6 pm.
