Boys' Squash Sweeps A Pair

Mercersburg's boys' varsity and JV Squash teams did some roster mixing and shuffling as they competed against Boys Latin School of Baltimore and Lancaster (PA) Country Day January 14. The varsity blanked both schools 7-0 while the JV defeated LCD 5-2.

Using the normal varsity squad, the Blue Storm defeated Boys Latin without dropping a game and #1 Huzaifa Ibrahim '24 and #5 Francis Betkowski '23 only surrendered one point each in their 3-0 sweeps. Using a mix of varsity and JV players, Mercersburg also swept Lancaster Country Day, though most of the matches were very competitive and lasted four or five games.

The JV matchup against Lancaster featured wins by Gabe Bachtell '23, Gaven McGuire '26, Kyle Hwang '26, and Daniel Cunningham '26, who actually picked up two wins - playing at both #5 and #7. The JV also played an exhibition match against the varsity team from Shady Side Academy (Pittsburgh), losing that one 4-3.

The 7-2 varsity squad will now rest for a week of practice before competing in the Mid-Atlantic Squash Organization (MASO) Tournament at Woodberry Forest (VA) on Saturday, January 21 at 10 am. The JV travel to Potomac School (McLean, VA) on Wednesday, January 25 for a 4 pm. match.
