Spring Mills high school (Martinsburg, WV) defeated the host Blue Storm 10-7 in a boys' varsity lacrosse match played on the Regents' Turf Field March 24.
Due to the soggy conditions, the game was moved from Steiger Field up to the turf field, and both teams had to battle the cold, wet weather. The first quarter ended with the score tied at 1, but after the Blue Storm scored a quick goal to take a 2-1 lead early in the second, the Cardinals ran off five straight goals to build a big lead, and carried a 6-3 advantage into the half. Mercersburg settled down in the second half and matched Spring Mills with four goals over the final two periods, but the Cardinals dominated the draw circle and had a big advantage in time of possession for much of the game.
Davis Noone '23 led Mercersburg with three goals while Sam Wallace '23 had two and Frank Cantera '23 and Grant Wilkinson '26 added one each.
Next up for the Blue Storm (0-1) is a home match against Sidwell Friends (Washington, DC) on Tuesday, March 28 at 4:30 pm.
