Boys' Golf Wins Tri-County Invite

Mercersburg defeated teams from McConnellsburg high school and Saint James to claim first place in the Tri-County Invite Boys' Golf Tournament September 25. The event was hosted by the Chambersburg Country Club and the final scores were Mercersburg 164, McConnellsburg 181, and Saint James 191.

After another slow start (+7 collectively through the first hole), the Storm fought back and picked up their first win of the season. Leading the way was Stewart Allen '27, who actually birdied the first hole and came up with several clutch putts to card a 40. Captain Ryan Kothari '25 and Miles New '27 each shot 41, and head coach Doug Smith commented, "Kothari showed composure, as he usually does, to overcome a rough start with a strong mental game, while New struck the ball tremendously well, hitting seven of nine greens." Cameron Gierasch '26 and Matthew Gu '27 both came in at 42 to tie for the 4th score "displaying rock solid effort on the day", according to Smith.

"Thrilled the boys found it today," Coach Smith continued. "This is more of what we were hoping the team would look like and it has just taken us a few matches to get there.  We are entering the second half of the season now and let's hope we continue to build on this good play."

The Storm will host St. Andrews School (Middletown, DE) on Friday, October 4 at 4 pm at the Whitetail Golf Course in Mercersburg.
