Boys' Cross Country Tops Kiski, Takes Third in Ben Blosser

The boys' cross country team competed in the huge Ben Blosser Invitational Cross Country Meet September 17 and came in third in their division. Kiski also ran in the event, and the Blue Storm easily outdistanced them to take the win in the Centennial Cup competition.

Nearly 200 runners competed in the A/AA portion of the race, which was hosted by Big Springs high school in Newville, PA.  Mercersburg took third place out of eleven teams in the A division. Kiski only had four runner so they were not able to record an official score, but all seven Blue Storm runners finished ahead of Kiski's top finisher, so the outcome was not in question. The times and places for Mercersburg athletes are listed below.

11 – Brendan Shorb ’24 – 18:15
12 – Cole Smith ’23 – 18:18
15 – Winston Watkins ’25 – 18:26
29 – Bryson Brown ’24 – 19:30
31 – Jake Cruikshank ‘ 24 – 19:33
32 – Dawson Hastings ’23 – 19:40
46 – Oscar Su ’25 – 21:02

Mercersburg head coach David Grady had the following thoughts on the race: "This was a great opportunity for our runners to participate in a large race experience. Winston Watkins lost a shoe in the third mile when a runner from another team stepped on the back of his shoe and it came off. Despite the inconvenience, Watkins was not deterred and he had a strong finish, continuing to pass runners after he lost his shoe. Shorb, Smith, and Watkins have established a solid front end to our pack, as seen today and in last week’s race. We need to keep working on getting what has emerged as a second pack of Brown, Cruikshank, and Hastings to keep closing the gap to the front three."

Complete meet results can be found here.

The next action for the boys' is an event at Carlisle high school on Saturday, September 24 at 8 a.m.
