Boys' Cross Country Takes Fourth at Opening Meet

Mercersburg finished fourth out of fifteen teams at the 30th Annual Frankfort Invitational Boys' Cross Country Meet September 9 in Ridgeley, WV.

"Our runners generally responded and competed well in their first race of the season," noted head coach David Grady, "running against teams who already had several races under their belts. Winston Watkins '25 went out with the lead pack of runners in the first mile. Although he was not able to stick with them throughout the later stages of the race (finishing 11th), it was great to see him approach the race with confidence. Bryson Brown '24 ran a smart race, getting stronger in the later parts of the race and passing a number of runners to finish 15th. Brendan Shorb '24 ran a solid race, cracking the top 20 with a 19th-place showing. Kaori Graham-Myrie '24 also ran a solid race, taking the #50 spot in his first ever cross country race. Ahman Habib '26 showed some nice improvement over last year, moving into the varsity squad for the first time and finishing 62nd. Graham-Myrie, Habib, and Oscar Su '25 (71st) ran together in the early and middle stages of the race, showing some good team racing by encouraging each other along the way."

Watkins and Brown earned medalist honors by finishing in the top 15.

In the JV race, Will Wallace '27 (6th), James Coors '27 (7th), and Ethan Ma '27 (10th) earned ribbons by placing in the top ten as the JV squad finished second out of four teams.

Next up for the boys is the Ben Bloser Invitational at Big Springs (PA) high school on Saturday, September 16, beginning at 11:15 am.
