Mercersburg pulled off a sweep at the Landon Invitational (Bethesda, MD) April 6 with both the boys' and girls' teams taking first place in their respective competitions.
On the boys' side, the Storm accumulated 204 points, which doubled the total of the hosts, who finished in second place out of five schools. For the girls', Mercersburg racked up 126 points to top the seven-team field with Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart claiming second with a total of 97.
Top performers for the boys included Charlie Xu '26, who won the 100M (11.38) and 200M (23.80) and took second in the Long Jump, and Arnav Rao '26, who won the 400M (56.40), placed second in the triple jump, and was a member of the second place 4x400M relay team. Winston Watkins '25 had a strong day, winning the 3200M (10:40.99) and taking second in the 1600M. Haris Yahaya '24 won the 110M hurdles and placed second in the 300M hurdles while Konrad Spory '26 won the triple jump and was a member of both the second place 4x100M relay and the second place 4x400M team.
The girls' were led by Quinn Nelson '24, Lilly Killinger '26, Anne Sehon '25, and Madison Goodhart '24, who combined to win the 4x400M relay. Individually, Goodhart finished second in the 400M (1:02.52) while Nelson finished second in the 800M (2:22.61). Killinger won the 300M hurdles (54.54) and Sehon won the 1600M in a time of 5:36.88. Other winners for the Storm included Bella Levina '25, who took the Pole Vault by clearing 9-07.00 and Marlo Williams '25, who won the 100M Hurdles (17.29) and took second in the 300 hurdles.
"Mercersburg had a great day on the track and field at Landon," said head coach Nikki Walker. "Kids are really finding their events and can now settle into the training in the weeks ahead. I'm hoping that with better weather and consistent training that the athletes will soon see success from their work. We are lucky to have some wonderful talent on the team that will continue to carry us into the weeks ahead."
Next Saturday, April 13, both teams will return to the DC area to compete in a meet hosted by St. Albans School beginning at 8 am.
