Mercersburg defeated the visitors from the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (Washington, DC) 36-24 in a Keystone State Football League contest October 8.
Things got off to a rousing start for the Blue Storm as Luke Hendricks '24 blocked a punt after the Eagles' first possession and Logan Butts '23 picked it up and ran in for a score. Three minutes later Butts scored again on a 59-yard pass from Luke Golumbic '23, and just like that, Mercersburg was up 14-0. But MSSD did not quit, and they actually took a 16-14 lead just before halftime after two long touchdown passes. But with 36 seconds left before intermission, Golumbic eluded several tacklers and ran the ball 68 yards for a score to give the Blue Storm a 20-16 lead at the half.
Golumbic threw two more touchdown passes in the third quarter; a 49-yarder to Zeke Wadlington '23 and a 74-yarder to Adrian Rios '25 to build a comfortable lead. The Eagles had one more long touchdown pass in them with three minutes to play in the game to make the final score 36-24.
Mercersburg (3-1) has a bye next week and then travels to Delaware County Christian School (Newtown Square, PA) on Saturday, October 22 for a 2 p.m. contest.
