The Keystone Cup is an annual competition at a rotating course between The Kiski School, The HIll School and Mercersburg Academy. This year's venue was the absolutely gorgeous Radley Run Country Club in Westchester, PA, and the weather was ideal for golf.
The Blue Storm played very well out of the gate with every member of the top six shooting 42 or under on the front side. The match tightened quite a bit over the final nine with Hill making a push. Argyle Downes '24 was again the medalist of the match and was able to fire a very strong 74 to lead the Blue Storm. Jason Jones '24 posted a 78 to continue his run of great play and provide that second low score that is so valuable in high school golf. Next in the scoring was Chris LaBolle '24 who was rolling the rock en route to a stunning career low of 81. Co-captain Ethan Xin '23 carded an 87 while Arjun Patel '23 fired an 88 and gave Mercersburg just enough firepower to squeeze out a 4 stroke victory.
"It's days like this that make golf great," Coach Smith remarked. "We just had an outstanding time at the course and the match delivered quality golf. This performance was very solid and I'm thrilled for Chris who was tremendous on the day. We need to ride this wave of good golf in the state championship in order to achieve our goals. I love the way the team is playing."
Mercersburg goes back to the Hill School's home course, Brookside Country Club, for the PAISAA State Championship on Monday, October 31.
