Baseball Team Falls to Washington in 8 Innings

In a game that featured wild swings, the Blue Storm baseball team lost to the host Washington high school Patriots (Charles Town, WV) 12-11 in extra innings April 19.

After Mercersburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a 2-run triple from Arjun Patel '23, the Patriots immediately responded with five runs of their own in the bottom half. The Blue Storm pulled to within 6-5 in the top of the fifth, but Washington extended their lead to 9-5 heading into the final frame. Mercersburg exploded for six runs in the top of the 7th thanks to two-run singles from Patel, Adam Deavers '23, and Ryan MacInnis '23, but Washington came right back with two in the bottom of the 7th to send the game to extra innings. After holding Mercersburg scoreless in the top of the 8th, the Patriots scored in the bottom of the 8th to win it.

Patel's 4 RBI led the Blue Storm attack and he, Gavin Williams '25, and Caleb Newcomer '23 collected two hits each.

The loss snaps a six-game winning streak and drops Mercersburg to 7-4 with a Mid-Atlantic Prep League doubleheader coming up on Saturday, April 22 when the Peddie Falcons come to town.  Game one begins at 1 pm.
