Baseball Opens Reisner-Gift Invitational

Mercersburg's baseball team raised the curtain on the inaugural Reisner-Gift Baseball Invitational April 15. The Blue Storm fell behind Scotland Campus 5-0 before pulling within 5-3, but couldn't complete the comeback in the opener of the round-robin event, which also features Western Reserve Academy and Highland School.

In front of Mercersburg coaching legends and tournament namesakes Karl Reisner and Brent Gift, and facing a Scotland Campus team coached by Blue Storm alum and former major-league pitcher Josh Edgin ’06, the Storm got off to a rough start, allowing two runs to the Knights in the 2nd and single runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. Mercersburg got on the board in the bottom of the 5th and scored twice in the 6th, but that was as close as the margin would get.

Aiden Lorson ’22 had two of Mercersburg’s four hits on the day, as well as two RBI.

Highland defeated Western Reserve 13-1 in the second game.

The Blue Storm faces Western Reserve at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, with its second game of the day against Highland at 2:30 p.m. (The other games feature WRA against Scotland at 12:30 p.m. and Highland against Scotland at 4:30 p.m.) All four games will be livestreamed.
