Baseball Advances in State Tournament

Mercersburg travelled to Shipley School (Bryn Mawr, PA) for a first round game in the PAISAA state baseball tournament May 17 and defeated the host Gators 5-0 to advance into the quarterfinals.

Brodie Collins '24 put the Storm on top with a solo homer in the second and the score held at 1-0 until Mercersburg added two in the fifth thanks to some Shipley fielding miscues and an RBI double from Augie Bennett '24. Two more runs came in on a wild pitch and a Hayden Shirk '24 RBI single in the top of the seventh and Thomas Davenport '24 worked his way out of a minor jam in the bottom of the inning to preserve the shutout.

Davenport had another stellar performance on the mound, giving up just four hits and striking out eleven while going the distance. Mercersburg had only six hits of their own, but they used them well to grab the win.

The Storm are now 13-8 and have won nine of their last eleven contests. They will be back in the Philadelphia area on Tuesday, May 21 to take on #1 seed and defending champion Malvern Prep at 4 pm.
