Isaac Newman ’21 broke the Mercersburg 1-meter diving record with a score of 329.00 to lead Mercersburg’s swimming and diving teams at a Blue/White Intrasquad Meet held April 9 in the Lloyd Aquatic Center’s Furnary Pool.

Newman, a postgraduate from Albuquerque, NM, bested the previous school record of 295.85, which was set in 2006 by Mark Zbikowski ’06. It was also a pool record for diving in the Furnary Pool, which opened in 2019.

“I couldn’t be happier for Isaac,” said Mercersburg head diving coach Jennifer Miller Smith ’97. “He has an incredible work ethic and dedication to the sport. Put simply, he is the most outstanding diver I have ever coached. It’s a well-earned honor.”

Jade Matthias ’22 and Trevor Torres ’21 each won two individual events and were part of two victorious relay teams in the girls’ and boys’ swimming programs, respectively.

“We had a number of excellent performances and some great swims, especially given the short amount of time we had to train—just four weeks—since coming back to school,” Mercersburg head swimming coach Glenn Neufeld said.
