Caleb Newcomer ’23 pitched a two-hit shutout and John Blanco ’23 drove in four runs as Mercersburg’s baseball team knocked around local rival St. James, 12-0, in a contest played May 3 at Cannon Field.

Newcomer went the distance on the mound, allowing just one walk to go with the two hits and striking out seven Saints hitters. No St. James baserunner advanced past second base.

Mercersburg scored three times in the 1st inning, three times in the 2nd, and blew things open with six runs in the 3rd. Blanco was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and four runs batted in. Gavin Williams ’24 homered, scored twice, and drove in a pair of runs. Danny Adusei-Poku ’23 slugged a double and had three RBI.

It was the first shutout win for the Blue Storm since the team’s season-opening 4-0 victory over Spring Mills back on March 28.

The Storm (9-10) visits Jefferson High School Friday, May 6. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. in Shenandoah Junction, WV.
