Mercersburg@Home Brings Campus to Families This October
As Mercersburg Academy reimagines the educational environment during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are also reimagining the way our families and alumni connect with the school. Mercersburg@Home, a month-long virtual program during October, is designed specifically for our Mercersburg families and alumni as a way to bring our traditional Family and Alumni Weekend straight to their homes all over the globe.
“In true Mercersburg Academy fashion, we are approaching our work in these uncertain times with an optimistic and opportunistic lens,” says Quentin McDowell, associate head of school for external relations. “This includes examining how we have traditionally conducted our events, including Family and Alumni Weekend. The Mercersburg@Home concept, while not the same as welcoming our broad Mercersburg community back to campus in person, does allow us to reach so many more families and alumni and broadens our options for programming and engagement. We hope everyone will take advantage of the many wonderful programs being offered."
Members of the College Counseling team officially kicked things off Tuesday, October 6, with live Q&A sessions. Pre-recorded sessions on topics including early action, the healthy college list, financial aid, athletic recruitment, and the impact of COVID-19 on the college landscape are available on the Mercersburg@Home webpage.
Other highlights of the month include performances by our student arts groups and Blue/White athletic competitions, a panel featuring two alumni who inspire our students to be advocates of empowerment in their communities, an opportunity for our families and alumni who identify as Black to engage with one another, an update with school leadership about the fall term and what is expected this winter, and virtual book club discussions about our all-community read Darius the Great is Not Okay.
For those who cannot join events live, all session recordings will be available on Mercersburg’s website after each event. Learn more and connect with Mercersburg this October during Mercersburg@Home.
