Mercersburg Welcomes 18 New Faculty Members
This fall, Mercersburg Academy welcomes 18 new faculty members as the 2021–2022 school year commences, including four Mercersburg alumni.
Michelle Eichelberger P ’20 of McConnellsburg, PA, joins the science faculty. She will also coach track and field, help with management of track and field meets, and be an adviser for the Karux yearbook. She is married to Danny Eichelberger, who is Mercersburg’s computer and information systems support specialist. Eichelberger holds a bachelor of science in education in mathematics as well as a master’s in educational leadership and policy from Shippensburg University. The Eichelbergers are the parents of Erika ’20.
Sarah Firestone ’13 of Mercersburg, PA, joins the athletic faculty as the fitness and performance coordinator; she was a staff member during the 2020–2021 academic year. Firestone received a bachelor of arts in journalism with specialties in broadcasting, advertising, and public relations from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Kayla Hart of Stafford, TX, joins the admission office as an associate director. She will also serve as an assistant coach for the outdoor track & field teams. Hart received a bachelor of business administration from Baylor University and a master of liberal arts from Harvard University.
Mary Cate Hauenstein of Cape Elizabeth, ME, joins the counseling faculty this fall. She holds a bachelor of arts in visual arts from Brown University, a master of arts in clinical psychology and Somatic psychotherapy from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and a master of arts in professional school counseling from Adams State University.
Rich Heffron of Ithaca, NY, joins the history faculty. He will also be an assistant coach for the boys’ cross country and indoor track & field teams. Heffron holds a bachelor of arts in history from Quinnipiac University and a master of arts in Middle Eastern studies, and is pursuing a doctorate in Islamic history from the University of Chicago.
Justin Ledesma of Havertown, PA, joins the college counseling office as an associate director. He holds a bachelor of business administration in marketing from the University of Notre Dame and a master of science in communication from Drexel University.
William Linch of College Station, TX, joins the science faculty. He will teach robotics and be a member of the track & field coaching staff. Linch received a bachelor of science in physics and a doctorate in physics from the University of Maryland.
Richard Mahoney of Clifton, NJ, joins the admission office as an admission counselor and Mercersburg Outdoor Education instructor. He holds a bachelor of science in physical education from Plymouth State University.
Sheri Mahoney of Tampa, FL, joins the science faculty and Mercersburg Outdoor Education. She holds a bachelor of science from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree in education from the University of New Mexico. Sheri’s spouse is former faculty member Alysia Oakley (2007–2012).
Glenn McKevitt of Santa Rosa, CA, joins the language faculty as a Spanish teacher, and will work with the boys’ varsity soccer coaching staff and Mercersburg Outdoor Education. He holds a bachelor of arts in French and Spanish from Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland.
Phoebe Moore Miller ’13 of Malvern, PA, joins the admission office as assistant director and will serve as an assistant JV girls’ lacrosse coach. She holds a bachelor of arts in political science from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Rebecca Rose of Brooklyn, NY, joins the English faculty and will serve as an assistant coach for girls’ cross country and indoor track and field. She returns to Mercersburg after teaching English and Latin as a teaching fellow from 2016 to 2018. Rose holds a bachelor of arts in classical studies from Middlebury College and a master of arts from Columbia University.
Emily Schoenberger ’15 of Corning, NY, joins the history faculty and the coaching staff for girls’ soccer and JV girls’ basketball. She holds a bachelor of science in education in history and a bachelor of arts in English from Shippensburg University.
Morgan Seymour of Dover, DE, joins the athletic faculty as the assistant director of athletics and assistant field hockey coach. She holds a bachelor of science in sports management from Wesley College.
Amy Shaffer Post ’02 of Chambersburg, PA, joins the counseling office as a social emotional learning counselor. She holds a bachelor of arts in psychology and a master of social work from Shippensburg University.
Vicki Thompson of Memphis, TN, joins the college counseling office as a senior associate director. She holds a bachelor of science in elementary education from Louisiana State University and a master’s in counselor education from the University of New Orleans.
Haley Tyree of Mercersburg joins the residence-life faculty as the dorm dean in Fowle Hall and is continuing as the testing coordinator for the college counseling office. She holds a bachelor of science from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Renata Williams of Annville, PA, joins Mercersburg as the director of diversity, equity, and inclusion. She holds a bachelor of arts in religious studies from Hartwick College, a master of arts in counseling from Manhattan College, and a doctorate in educational leadership from The Sage Colleges.
The 2021–2022 academic year begins at Mercersburg with the school’s Opening Convocation Sunday, September 5. Fall term classes start Monday, September 6.
