Mercersburg Summer Programs Announces 2020 Schedule
Mercersburg Academy Summer Programs is excited to announce its programs and dates for summer 2020. All programs (with the exception of ESL+) have a special early-bird price of up to $200 off the registration fee, effective through February 15, 2020. Camps range in length from one week to four weeks.
“Summer programming at Mercersburg Academy creates opportunities for families to visit Mercersburg Academy and take advantage of our school’s state-of-the-art facilities,” says Coleman Weibley, Mercersburg’s director of summer and external programs. “Whether a family is interested in experiencing the boarding-school lifestyle or just finding an unforgettable summer experience, our program offerings have something for everyone.”
Ever-popular programs like Mercersburg Adventure Camp, STEAM Camp, Performing Arts Intensive, and Young Writers Camp return to the 2020 schedule alongside the sought-after sports camps, which include Basketball Camps, Lacrosse Camps, Soccer Camps, and Swim Clinics. New this year is a Boys’ Lacrosse Camp, scheduled for July 20-24, 2020, led by Mercersburg Academy’s head boys’ varsity lacrosse coach Tim Kerr. The camp is designed for athletes ages 9-14 of all skill levels. The camp will focus on skill development and improvement, from fundamental stickwork skills to advanced attacking and defending methods. Participants will have plenty of opportunities to play full-field games, but will also build their abilities in small-game situations.
Other highlights for summer 2020 include the opening of Mercersburg Academy’s Lloyd Aquatic Center, which will be utilized by every program. The new facility, which is scheduled to fully open in December 2019, is state-of-the-art and will house Mercersburg Swim Clinics. The facility includes the Olympic-size, 50-meter, 10-lane Furnary Pool with 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards.
“The addition of the Lloyd Aquatic Center brings a lot of possibilities to programming during the summer months,” said Weibley. “In addition to expanding swim clinics, it also allows other programs access to training and recovery and will create unique recreational programming ideas.”
In addition to Kerr, Academy faculty and staff members scheduled to serve as coaches and instructors at different sessions this summer include Kristin Ahlgren, head girls’ varsity lacrosse coach (Girls’ Lacrosse Camp), Sean Crocker, head boys’ varsity basketball coach (Boys’ Basketball Camp); Glenn Neufeld, head swimming coach and director of aquatics (Mercersburg Swim Clinics); Kristen Pixler, head girls’ varsity soccer coach (Soccer Elite Camp and Soccer Day Camp); Paul Sipes, head girls’ varsity basketball coach (Girls’ Basketball Camp); and Carl Stensland, head boys’ varsity soccer coach (Soccer Elite Camp and Soccer Day Camp).
