Evert won the boys’ 50-yard freestyle (20.51) and 100 free (46.28), while Harm placed first in the boys’ 100 butterfly (50.21) and 100 breaststroke (58.59). Harm and Evert were both part of the Blue Storm’s winning 200 medley relay (1:33.76, with teammates Andrew Yuen ’21 and Alex Edwards ’21). Edwards won the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:54.95, and was part of Mercersburg’s first-place 400 free relay (with Yuen, Harm, and Clark Bayer ’22). Evert and Bayer also swam on Mercersburg’s first-place boys’ 200 free relay with Peem Pibuldham ’22 and Mason Green ’23.

Top finishers for the Blue Storm girls included the 200 medley relay team of Jade Matthias ’22, Isabella Van Ess ’22, Kiersten Donnelly ’21, and Bryce Mitchell ’21 (2nd, 1:54.25); the 200 free relay of Matthias, Mitchell, Amanda Peh ’22, and Sabine Ellison ’21 (2nd, 1:44.12); Matthias in the 50 free (2nd, 24.91) and 100 backstroke (tied for 2nd, 1:00.62);  Donnelly in the 500 free (3rd, 5:46.44) and 200 individual medley (4th, 2:25.38); Van Ess in the 100 breaststroke (2nd, 1:10.70) and 100 butterfly (4th, 1:03.38); Ellison in the 50 free (4th, 25.98); the 400 free relay team of Ellison, Van Ess, Donnelly, and Isabel Lewis ’21 (4th, 3:55.57); and Stapley Curwen ’20 (3rd, 171.70 points) and Maggie Betkowski ’21 (4th, 157.90) in one-meter diving.

The meet served as an important tune-up for the 2020 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships, which are set for February 14-15 in Lancaster, PA.

The event was the largest meet to be held so far in the Lloyd Aquatic Center’s brief history; the 41,000-square foot facility opened in late 2019 and includes the Furnary Pool, which can be configured as a 25-yard (“short”) course or a 50-meter (“long”) course, allowing for training and competition at both distances.

Mercersburg has produced 32 Olympians in swimming alone; members of the group have earned 11 medals including five golds. Mercersburg teams have captured 20 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving championships. The Blue Storm boys’ and girls’ teams each won an Easterns title during the 2010s.
