Advanced Topics in Ceramics: Teapots

Students will understand the concepts of both of utilitarian and metaphorical teapots, whether thrown or hand-built. They will learn how to construct the various part of the teapot to become a harmonious whole. Form and function will be addressed. Slip trailing decoration and drawing through a different colored slip (sgraffito) will be taught as a new glazing technique. Students will also make a glaze through simple glaze formulation. Historical references of various artists will lend professional examples as a visual library. This assignment is supported by a final critique.
