Introduction to Dance

This course will provide students with the opportunity to acquire proficiency in dance, regardless of previous training and background. From the athlete looking to improve balance and flexibility to the student with prior knowledge wanting to develop interest in dance, this course is designed to incorporate all levels of ability. The content includes application of fundamental principles of modern, ballet, and jazz technique, including barre, center floor, axial center, and locomotor and physiologically sound movement progressions. Class will primarily consist of technique; however, a variety of dance-related topics (including the introduction of the history and terminology of these idioms) will be covered in lecture format.
