Lissette, Hosgood Named Board of Regents President, Vice President
Stacie Rice Lissette ’85, a member of Mercersburg Academy’s Board of Regents for 20 years, is the Board of Regents’ new president, and H. Dean Hosgood ’98, a fellow Regent and former president of Mercersburg’s Alumni Council, will serve as the Board’s vice president.
Lissette, of Hanover, PA, just completed a four-year term as vice president of the Board, while Hosgood, of Hamden, CT, has served as a Regent since 2016. Lissette and Hosgood both assumed their new duties at the beginning of July.
“I am honored to serve Mercersburg in this capacity following a long line of excellent Board leaders and with an extremely dedicated group of Regents,” says Lissette, who becomes the 18th president in the Board’s history. “Mercersburg Academy is positioned well during this critical time for educational institutions, and our Board will continue to partner with our strong school leadership to carry the school into the future.”
About Stacie Lissette
Lissette is the director of her family’s foundation, the Rice Family Foundation. She serves on the board of Utz Quality Foods, which was started by her great-grandparents in the early 1920s; her husband, Dylan, is Utz’s president, chief executive officer, and vice chairman of the board. She is also active on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
Lissette was co-vice chair of Mercersburg’s Daring to Lead Campaign, which was completed in 2016 and raised more than $300 million. The Lissettes made the lead gift for Mercersburg’s Hale Field House, which opened in 2017 and is named for Douglas Hale, Mercersburg’s sixth head of school. She is a member of the McDowell Society and has twice served on Mercersburg’s Head of School Search Committee (serving as its co-chair in 2015). The Lissette Game Room in the school’s Simon Student Center is named in her family’s honor. Lissette was the 2015 recipient of Mercersburg’s Alumni Council Service Award.
Lissette is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and George Washington University Law School. She served on Mercersburg’s Alumni Council from 1995 to 1998 (when she was initially appointed to the Board of Regents); Lissette first served on the Board from 1998 to 2007 and then re-joined the Board in 2009.
The Lissettes have five children, including Mercersburg alumni Max ’14, Payton ’14, and Alex ’17, as well as Colin ’23, who is a rising 10th-grade student.
As Board of Regents president, Lissette succeeds Deborah Simon ’74, who retired from the Board after 22 years of service, including as president from 2017 to 2020).
About Dean Hosgood
Hosgood is the director of global environmental health and a faculty member in the department of epidemiology and population health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, he received a master’s and a doctorate from Yale University. Hosgood has served as a molecular epidemiologist at the National Cancer Institute and as a researcher at the Yale School of Medicine.
Hosgood spent six years (2009 to 2015) on the Alumni Council, including a stint as president, before joining the Board of Regents in 2016. He served as a Daring to Lead Campaign Steering Committee member and chair of the recent Head of School Search Advisory Committee. More recently, he has worked as an external advisory group member with Mercersburg’s Storm Watch Task Force, which continues to help guide the school through its ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hosgood’s family connections to Mercersburg include two sisters, Emily Weiss ’08 and Ceara Weiss ’20, and a brother, Connor Weiss ’13. He and his wife, Sara Smiley Smith, have two children.
As vice president of the Board, Hosgood succeeds Lissette as well as John Jones ’73, who had served as the organization’s vice presidents since 2017.
