Lacrosse - Girls - Varsity | Mercersburg Academy

The foundation of Mercersburg lacrosse is the development of the physical and mental game of each athlete, focusing on building athleticism, great stickwork, competitive composure, and winning attitudes. This foundation has provided the base for a program, that, in recent seasons, has reached the highest level of play and accomplishments in team history.
Recent Mercersburg graduates have gone on to play on the collegiate level at Bates College, Chapman University, Frostburg State University, Gettysburg College, Hamilton College, Lock Haven University, the University of Michigan, the U.S. Naval Academy, Virginia Wesleyan College, and Washington College. A number of alumni now coach high school and club teams.
The offseason is prime time for Storm lax players to develop their athleticism and their game. Many varsity players compete on club teams in the summer and a number of athletes play other sports in the fall, while also playing in 3v3 and 5v5 tournaments, clinics, and showcases. Indoor sessions lead the winter, prepping the team for a spring-break training camp and the regular season.
The lacrosse team trains and competes on Regents’ Field, an expansive synthetic-turf facility completed in 2009 and designated for primary use by female sports teams at Mercersburg. An adjacent natural-grass field serves as a secondary training option.

Kristin Ahlgren

English Faculty, Head Girls’ Lacrosse Coach, and Head Field Hockey Coach

Bio

Kristin Ahlgren came to Mercersburg in 2017 as a member of the English faculty. Kristin is head coach of Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity lacrosse and field hockey teams, and is also a head coach for Renegades Lacrosse Club. She previously taught and worked in the library at Gilman School in Baltimore, where she also served as a head coach for the Diamonds Lacrosse Club. Kristin has taught and worked at St. David’s Day School in Baltimore and at Heritage Hall School in Oklahoma City (where she was also the head field hockey coach). Her coaching experience includes stints as head field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach at University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe, MI; as head junior varsity field hockey and assistant JV lacrosse coach at Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore; and as an assistant field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach at Oberlin College in Ohio. Kristin graduated from Gettysburg College, where she played varsity field hockey and lacrosse; she lives in Mercersburg with her four children, including Jill ’19, Jake ’21, and Bridget ’22.

John Chepren

Director of Information Technology

Bio

John Chepren arrived at Mercersburg in 2015 after 15 years at Canterbury School in New Milford, CT. At Canterbury, he managed the information technology, communications, and library staff, coached ice hockey, and served as a student adviser and dormitory supervisor. He started at Canterbury in 2000 as a network administrator, and was promoted to director of technology in 2009. He previously worked in database management and administration and as a support specialist at Yale University. A native of New Bedford, MA, John holds a bachelor’s degree from Sacred Heart University and a master’s degree in information sciences with a concentration in information assurance from Penn State University. He and his wife, Rebecca, have four daughters: Taylor ’21, Hailey ’23, Alexis, and Samantha.
